TeamSpeak Guide

TeamSpeak and You - Gives you the basics of TeamSpeak, how to install and what certain things on our TeamSpeak server means. It also contains the rules for TeamSpeak use.

TeamSpeak and You

Well greetings user, by reaching this page, we can assume that you have some interest in joining other users, such as yourself, in action packed adventures conducted through the Teamspeak 3 Client.

Never heard of Teamspeak 3? Well someone doesn't get out much... Teamspeak 3 is a proprietary voice conversation software that allows users to speak or type in a chat channel with other users. This is similar to how a conference call would be on the phone or skype, except much more powerful. It is encouraged that users utilize the voice options available, but for those who are more meek, typing is always allowed in all channels.

So what does this mean for you? Well it means lots of things, by connecting to Teamspeak, you can get involved in live roleplay discussions, engage with your other members in friendly chit-chat, and of course talk with your friends while you are distracted playing video games or doing other work that is cluttering your screen, all for free.

Getting Started

So I bet your excited, but there are a few steps you have to take to be able to use team speak. The first is to make sure you have a system that can handle Teamspeak. Fortunately, regardless of your preference, Teamspeak supports Windows, Mac and Linux OS's (and will even work on Android, I-Phone and other Mobile Devices), but there is of course hardware requirements too.

View all requirements for Teamspeak
Note - Make sure you are looking at Client Requirements, not Server

If your system meets all the specs required of TeamSpeak, excellent, we can move to the next step. Which is of course downloading the software. To download Teamspeak, click the link below, the page there will direct you to the proper mirrors to get the software.

Download Teamspeak
Note - Make sure you are looking at the Client download, not the Server and that you are picking the version that applies to your OS.

Once downloaded, please begin the installation process. Installing TeamSpeak is like the installation process of many other programs. So assuming that you did install TeamSpeak correctly, please open the program.

Setup Wizard

Upon opening the Client for the first time, a pop-up should appear identifying itself as the Setup Wizard.

There are 6 steps to the Setup Wizard, all of them extremely straightforward with their instructions and explanations available at each step. The most important of these steps are the Choosing of your Nickname and your Microphone Settings. Make sure that the Nickname that is used will be recognized by members in the Inn, and that you choose the Microphone setting that meets your current speaking environment.

If you use Voice Detection and the background noise annoys others, you will be requested to switch to Push to Talk, or face being kicked from your current channel.

If you like to see a more dedicated guide on the Setup Wizard, you can click to the video Tutorial Below.
TeamSpeak 3 Client - Windows Installation and Setup Video

Once done with the Setup Wizard, all you have left to do is connect to the dedicated server of your choosing. To get to use our features, this means of course, connecting to our server. To do this go to the top of your Client's window and click "Connections", when the drop down appears click "Connect".

When the connection pop-up appears, please fill in the proper information:

Server Address: waywardinn.com
Nickname: (Your Username)
Server Password: (Leave Blank)

If this proves to be successful, congratulations User, you have successfully setup your TeamSpeak Client and can now get involved in all of our daily activity within the TeamSpeak server.

The Wayward Inn Server

Well now that you have access to the Teamspeak server, its best for us to explained to you the powers that you possess and the ground rules that we expect from all members.

Channels

Inside the Wayward Inn Server, there is an entire listing of different channels you can join and some that other users have created.

The Lobby - This channel is the welcoming channel to the Server. Users do not have the ability to talk within the Lobby, and should move to another channel after reading the rules.

The Lounge (General Discussion) - This channel is for general/off topic chit-chat of any kind. Forum rules about appropriate discussion still apply. Guests can enter this channel.

Gaming Rooms - The Game Rooms are the channels to be used when playing a game with others on the server. These channels are permanent Inn Members can also make temporary channels for a private room or for a game that is not currently listed.

RP Theater - The RP Theater is the channel designated for RP discussions and for Dicerolling/Chat RPs. Inn Members and higher are the only ones that can access this channel and the channels underneath it. As with the Game Room, Temporary channels can be made to host private rooms.

Nation Building - This is a channel that is used for discussing Nation Building RPs.

RP In Session - RP In-Session is a channel that is used by Chat Roleplays that are currently having their game or session. If you are not a part of the current chat roleplay, you should not enter without permission, as the individuals inside the channel are involved in their own game, and certainly do not want to be interrupted by your entry or conversation.

The Dark Wizard's Hat - This is the Staff Channel. The Channel can not be entered or accessed by any user that is not of Staff Ranking.

AFK World - This is the AFK channel, similar to the Lobby it does not grant the ability to talk within the channel. This channel is for users that are away from their computer, and do not want to be bothered by others. Users can also be moved to the AFK by a Channel Moderator or higher if they have become AFK.

Ranks

Every user on the TeamSpeak server has a rank, or user group, that they belong to, users with higher ranks gain more privileges, similar to ranks on the Forum.

Updated from Jan 23, 2012 - They’ve got a Potato Gun...

Restricted Guest - Restricted Guests, this is the rank given to users upon entry. A guest is a user that is not active on the Wayward Inn, and has not been promoted by a staff member to the rank of invited guest. As such, Restricted Guests are restricted to the lobby where they have no voice privileges. If one of your friends is joining the channel and you wish to give them Invited Guest status, please poke a Moderator or Administrator online, who will promote them when prompted. Restricted Guests who are not spoken for by another member or not a part of the site will be removed by the system after a designated time has passed.

Invited Guest - Invited Guests, which are designated by a red star, are guests that have been promoted by a staff member for the purpose of visiting our server for multiple of reasons. Invited Guests (or Red Stars) can access the general and gaming channels. Similar to the old Guest rank, Invited Guests is the rank designated to the public and/or friends of the community, that have agreed to follow our rules and not abuse the server. Invited Guests lack the ability to create temporary channels but still retain their ability to poke. They also can not access the RP channels designated for Inn Members. (Hint - If a channel has a Gold Star next to its name, Invited Guests can not enter)

Inn Member - This rank is given to forum and community members from the Wayward Inn. With this rank, a user gains more privilages, such as being allowed to freely enter the RP Theater and create temporary channels (Please Read - Creating Temporary Channels) for their own private use. Inn Members are designated with a golden star.

Channel Moderator - Channel Moderators is a special rank in that it is a channel rank. Meaning a user can be a Channel Moderator in one channel but not be in another. Channel Moderators is designated ether by a Moderator or an Administrator, or when a user creates a new temporary channel. Channel Moderators have all the abilities of a Inn Member, except they also have the right to kick people from their channel and to make other people Channel Moderators. Channel Moderators are designated with a C labeled shield badge.

Moderator - Moderators is a rank given to those who are ether Global Moderators on the forums, or are users proficient in the workings of TeamSpeak and have proven themselves mature enough to handle the rank of TeamSpeak moderator. Moderators have abilities beyond that of a regular user, including the ability to kick users from any channel, kick users from the server, and to ban users. Moderators also have the ability to promote users to Inn Member or Channel Moderator (in any channel) and have access to any channel, regardless if it is password protected or not. Moderators are considered Staff Members of the site and should be respected as such. They are designated with a M labeled shield badge.

Administrator - Administrator is a rank bestowed to Administrators of ether the forums or the server. Administrators have powers entitled to them that are beyond user comprehension. Similar to Moderators, they are the ability to kick users from the channel or server, along with ban users. Administrators also promote Moderators, and make new permanent channels. Administrators are the highest ranks on the server, and are leaders of the Staff, and should be respected as such. They are designated with an A labeled shield badge.

Server Administrator - This is the rank given to Server Administrators, also known as Ghan. When seeing this rank, you should compliment Ghan for having it and tell him how the red badge is beautiful.

Ground Rules & Privileges

Creating Temporary Channels

A user that is a rank higher than Guest, can make temporary channels for their use. Temporary channels will exist until every user in the channel leaves that said channel. When the last member leaves, the channel will be deleted and a new one will have to be created. Users have the right to choose certain settings of the temporary channels, including the sound quality and if it is password protected.

Poking is a Privilege

Poking is a quintessential tool in TeamSpeak, it allows users to nudge one another with a "Wake-Up" message or pop up with a tiny message that attempts to gain the other user's attention. Poking has many purposes, but like all powers, should be used sparingly. If you are caught abusing your poking privilege it will be removed from you.

Inn Members & Guests

Inn Members are members that are active in the community or on the site, Guests can approach a moderator or administrator for the rank of Inn Member if they would like to obtain it, however every rank is handled on a case by case basis and your rank can be removed by a Staff Member at any time.

Addons & Plugins

Themes

Using the TeamSpeak Client allows you to be able to change many settings when it comes to how your personal Client looks. If you wish to change to a darker or different color theme, you are free to go to TeamSpeak Addons, and find a Theme that fits your needs.

Dungeon Master Plugins

On the Wayward Inn many roleplays utilize the chat function to host Pen & Paper/Dice Roller roleplays. These are plugins that dungeon masters might desire to install when using our Teamspeak server for their roleplaying games.
  • Dice Rolling Lua Script - Download
A simple dice rolling script that only one user needs to have installed (for example, the GM in RP). It allows users in the channel to roll dice and if more than one die is rolled at once then it adds up all the results at the end.
